Different sensory dimensions of reading

This presentation explores Niklas Luhmann’s theory of literature as a phenomenon within society that can be approached from several dimensions. The work of the German poet Christian Morgenstern, who excelled primarily in experimental, nonsense poetry, is examined by example and on the basis of an article by Jahannes Ungelenk. This contrasts the active participation of the reader with mere passive consumption, which leads to no communication between the artwork and its observer. In the analysis of the poem, the emphasis will not only be on the sense of hearing, which is accentuated in poetry, but also on the sense of sight, which tends to be an integral part of interpretation in experimental poetry.
