Anotace
The possibility of human genetic enhancement has been discussed in bioethics for quite some time. However, in 2019, the first actual genetic modification of an unborn human was announced, using CRISPR-Cas9 technology. Chinese scientist He Jiankui and his team edited the DNA of twins, known as Nana and Lulu, in an attempt to make them immune to HIV. Although such a practice has been considered unethical, it has now become a pressing issue. In my talk, I will discuss the ethical arguments for and against genetic enhancement. I will also present various types of genetic enhancement, along with their potential benefits and risks. I will argue that most of the arguments against genetic enhancement are based on vague or meaningless concepts and lack proper justification.
