“Ad-dico” in Latin means to add something to something, to add something extra. Someone who is an “addict” may be figuratively and perhaps even exaggeratedly perceived as a great enthusiast, crazy about something or someone, in short, an addict. And “addicted” as someone who is generally perceived as an addict. Usually we mean alcohol or drugs, which is a common but very simplistic and inaccurate view. Yes, one could say that addiction, or rather addictive thinking, which is very widespread (and the situation is getting worse worldwide), cannot be ‘cured’. Why love? Because love is also an addiction and “love junkies” are not at all uncommon and also healthy. Generally, however, according to the WHO, addictions are divided into non-substance addictions (the aforementioned love, food, games) and substance addictions (tobacco, alcohol, drugs).
